JOIN THE DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF BRADLEY MANNING

Sunday 20th March  2.00pm
The American Embassy, Grosvenor Square, LONDON

BRADLEY MANNING

In late May 2010, Private First Class Bradley Manning, an intelligence analyst
with the US Army in Baghdad, was arrested.  For his alleged whistle blowing
efforts, he is charged with two counts of violating the Uniform Code of
Military Justice, including eight criminal offenses and four noncriminal
violations of Army regulations, plus 22 further charges, one of which
‘assisting the enemy’ can carry the Death Penalty.

SUPPORT BRADLEY MANNING
To co-incide with the 8th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq, demonstrators
are gathering internationally to protest: -- 23 year old Pfc Bradley Manning
has been held in solitary confinement for almost eight months under
conditions best described as torture, without being convicted of a single
crime. He is alone in a 12’ x 6’ windowless room for 23 hours a day. For one
hour he is escorted in shackles to another room where he can walk in a
circle. He is permitted no other exercise. He is not allowed to sleep between
5am and 8pm, and must respond to his guards every 5 minutes. He has no
sheets or pillow and must sleep with his face visible to the guards or they will
wake him. Quantico authorities claim this is to prevent self-harm, but their
own prison psychologists deny this is necessary.

SPEAKERS to include [may be more yet ]: Bruce Kent  (vice-president CND)
Peter Tatchell  (Human Rights Campaigner)   Ben Griffin (ex SAS, Iraq)    Loz
Kaye (UK Pirate Party)   Naomi Colvin (uk friends of bradley manning) Ciaron
O’Reilly (former anti-war prisoner of US and peace activist)

Bradley Manning has dual US/UK nationality–his mother is Welsh- so we
have a special duty to give him our support, yet, though he is now facing a
charge that carries the Death Penalty he has received no British consular
support and the UK govt. has not spoken a word in his defence.

AFTER THE LEAKS WERE PUBLISHED
International Response

Two days after the WikiLeaks disclosure of the Afghan War Diary, the British
government launched two inquiries into Britain’s role in the Afghanistan War
examining civilian casualties, a timetable for withdrawal and whether they
could justify remaining involved in the 9 - year old war.  On August 1st, the
Dutch announced an immediate withdrawal of their NATO troops.  In the
States, Sen. John Kerry stated that the leaked documents “raise serious
questions about the reality of America's policy toward Pakistan and
Afghanistan.”
