Iran slams UK premier unfounded claims over N-program
« on: November 07, 2012, 08:25:46 PM »
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned as unfounded claims made by British Prime Minister David Cameron about the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear energy program.

In a statement on Wednesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that the Iranian nation would not surrender to the pressures of expansionist countries on its way to achieve its alienable right under Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers remarks made by the British premier contradictory to the completely peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities and the findings of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” the statement added.

“Expressing concern over an arms race in the Middle East is made [by Cameron] at a time when the main objective of the British premier’s trip to the region is in line with this issue and British weapons have been flooding the sensitive region of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf,” it noted.

At the beginning of his three-day visit to the United Arab Emirate (UAE), Cameron told students at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi on Monday that Iran acquiring nuclear weapons might “trigger a nuclear arms race” across the Middle East.

This is while Cameron is visiting the region in bid to sell as many as 100 Typhoon fighter jets worth £6 billion to Persian Gulf countries of UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The United States, Israel, Britain and some of their allies have accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
