After Ovid. The ‘author’ intended to (re)write a story o’War&Peace’. But Love (& other distractions - including not enough talent(s)) prevented this. So, by stealing a metrical foot/metre from every other line (this might be seen as an ironical smile at Virgil’s epically opening line (in adapted translation): “of arms and the man/woman common humanity I sing’) he pretends to be a Love songster instead ...
