Stephen Kapos on TourTrump, Imperialism and the Middle East![]() On Wednesday July 23 the Stephen Kapos on Tour organised by the Stop the War Coalition came to Newcastle. More than 100 people took part in the meeting in the Common Room at the Historic Miners Institute in Newcastle arranged and organised by Newcastle Stop the War. The meeting was welcomed to the Institute by a trustee of the common room who gave a short account of its role in the history of the North East (below). Tony Dowling Vice Chair of Newcastle Stop the War then introduced the meeting and the speakers. The meeting was part of a national touring meeting which opposes the British rulers addiction to war and support for war including the Israeli genocide against the people of Palestine. Stop the War is part of the national coalition standing with Palestine. The central theme of the meeting was that Britain is involved in enabling this genocide against Palestinians. Britain is supporting and arming Israel and that the people must stop Britain's involvement in genocide immediately. Condemned was Britain's bombing of Yemen and their support for the bombing of Iran by Israel and the US. Also throughout the Ukraine conflict the British government whether with the Tories under Boris Johnson or the present government, British governments have worked to prolong and extend and deepen that conflict and have done nothing whatever to bring about peace. Also, Britain is sending aircraft carriers across the world to try and confront China as if it was the colonial days of the Opium wars. The meeting discussed ending these wars and building the anti-war movement. Stephen Kapos who was the key note speaker vehemently illustrated through his horrific experience as a 7 year old survivor of the Holocaust against the Jewish people in World War II by the Nazis and that this cannot in any way justify Israel's genocide against the Palestinians today which Israel uses as a false cover for their crimes against humanity. The Chair announced the speakers. Palestinian Dr Nadine Absy, Tom Westgarth local activist in PCS, Parisa Panahi Iranian immingration case worker, Andrew Murray Vice President of Stop the War, Stephen Kapos, Holocaust survivor. At the end of the speeches there were some questions and contributions from the participants that were discussed and the meeting finished with thanks to the speakers and congratulated Stephen Kapos on his 88th birthday.
